One of Kensington's most inventive restaurants is expanding, quite literally, upward. Chef Evan Snyder and partner Julian van der Tak are opening Jean, a 15-seat chef's counter tucked into the apartment above Emmett.
- Jean will lean into van der Tak's upbringing in the south of France, filtered through Moroccan, Tunisian, and Algerian influence
- The centerpiece of the space is a wood hearth, with the full menu built around live-fire cooking
- The tasting format runs 12 courses, twice a night, a more formal experience than Emmett's neighborhood energy
- The team expects to move into the buildout this fall, with an opening planned for later in 2026
For anyone who has already made Emmett a regular stop, or anyone looking for a special occasion reservation worth planning around, Jean is one to watch.
