The Whitebrier, a popular bar and restaurant in Avalon, has been sold to Philadelphia’s Union League, according to an announcement on the restaurant’s Instagram page.
Union League President Robert Cavalier confirmed in a letter to members that the club’s board of directors unanimously approved the sale. The acquisition expands the Union League’s presence at the Jersey Shore, adding to its existing properties, including The Bungalow in Stone Harbor and Union League National Golf Club in Swainton.
Cavalier noted that The Bungalow’s limited space has made summer dining challenging, and Whitebrier’s 200-seat capacity will better accommodate members, their families, and guests. It remains unclear if the restaurant will be exclusive to Union League members.
The property sale is expected to close in the coming months, with plans to open for members by summer. Avalon Mayor John McCorristin acknowledged the purchase but said no specific plans for the site have been discussed.
Listed for sale in 2023 by CBRE, the Whitebrier property sits in Avalon, one of South Jersey’s most expensive real estate markets. The Union League, founded in 1862, has over 4,000 members and continues to expand its footprint in high-end coastal communities.
