There is no need to drive hours for a proper leaf-peeping trip this fall, the Main Line and Chester County have plenty of their own. Wissahickon Valley Park in Chestnut Hill remains a favorite for hikers and mountain bikers alike, with rolling hills that offer sweeping views of red, orange, and yellow canopy from its highest points, along with the region's last remaining covered bridge tucked inside.
For something a little slower, Marsh Creek State Park's 1,700 acres in Chester County center on a reservoir where early morning mist rising off the water makes for one of the more striking fall scenes in the region, and the trail loop around it offers foliage views from nearly every angle. And for those who would rather sit back than hike, the West Chester Railroad's Fall Foliage Express runs a no-sweat-required leaf-peeping journey through Chester Creek Valley to Glen Mills and back, departing several times a day on select November weekends from a cozy heated train car.
