In the heart of historic Gladwyne, a classic residence enters a new chapter with owners who wanted more than just a home, they envisioned a space that seamlessly merges work, life, and refined design. To bring their vision to life, they turned to Brittany Wurzak Hakimfar of Far Studio, a designer known for creating spaces that balance luxury, comfort, and timeless appeal.
“This is the fourth project we’ve completed together,” says Hakimfar, a Bryn Mawr-based interior designer. “These clients aren’t afraid of something that’s different, and they embrace a moody, sophisticated vibe.” The result is a contemporary retreat that maintains the integrity of the home’s age and character while feeling current and fresh.
Original elements including wood floors, exposed beams, and stone walls anchor the home in its storied past. “It’s so hard to find materials of this quality today,” Hakimfar explains. “The authenticity of something original is truly special.”
In the living area, dark Roman clay plaster walls contrast with pale pine ceilings, creating an elegant balance of light and texture. Furniture choices remain intentionally minimal, with natural materials and organic lines that celebrate craftsmanship and comfort.
The kitchen showcases a sleek and understated luxury, featuring counters and a backsplash crafted from Ceppo di Gré, an Italian sedimentary stone that adds a modern, tactile element to the design. A white lime-wash finish and light natural pine floors bring warmth and lightness, while maintaining the home’s signature moody tone.
“It’s always about balance,” says Hakimfar. “When done right, the outcome feels unique, timeless, and undeniably luxurious.”
