Tour of the Revamped Waldorf Astoria: Huge Suites, See-and-Be-Seen Scene

The Waldorf Astoria New York has officially reopened after more than eight years of careful restoration. Known for its rich history and famous guests, the hotel now blends classic charm with modern comfort. From the moment you step into the grand Art Deco lobby, you’re surrounded by beauty—high ceilings, detailed murals, and a stunning tile mosaic that feels like a work of art.

At the center of it all is Peacock Alley, the hotel’s cozy lounge that has long been a place to see and be seen. Here, you’ll find the historic clock from the 1893 World’s Fair and Cole Porter’s piano, both beautifully restored and fully accessible to guests. No ropes, no glass—just history, up close.

Spacious Living at a New Level

One of the biggest changes? More space and fewer rooms. The hotel now has 375 guest rooms and 372 private residences, down from 1,400 total units before. This gives each room much more space.

The one-bedroom king suite we toured felt more like a luxury apartment than a hotel room, with a full dining area, bright windowed bathroom, and a peaceful living room. Even though it faced a busy Manhattan street, the room stayed quiet—thanks to more than 5,000 new double-glazed windows added during the renovation.

Stunning Details Around Every Corner

A short walk from the rooms takes you to the Silver Corridor, a hallway inspired by the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles. It connects several beautiful event rooms, including the Grand Ballroom, which is set to open soon. With mirrors, chandeliers, and balconies, the space is perfect for special events—and yes, even selfies.

At the end of the tour, back at the famous clock, we ran into Chef Michael Anthony, known for Gramercy Tavern. He now also leads Lex Yard, the hotel’s new signature restaurant. He recommended the seasonal vegetables and roasted chicken—simple dishes done to perfection.
