The ICONA in Wonderland project, a proposed 250-room luxury hotel on Ocean City’s Boardwalk, is gaining momentum after receiving overwhelming support from the Boardwalk Merchants Association. This ambitious $135M-$155M development would replace the former Wonderland Pier with a high-end resort, retail promenade, and iconic amusement elements.
Developer Eustace Mita, owner of the ICONA brand of upscale Jersey Shore resorts, envisions a property that blends elegance with nostalgia. The hotel would feature 375 parking spaces, a stylish promenade with 10-12 retail shops, and beloved rides from Wonderland Pier, including the 140-foot Ferris wheel, historic carousel, and Wet Boats kiddie ride.
While some residents express concerns about zoning changes and increased traffic, Mita highlights the project’s potential to revitalize the Boardwalk and reclaim Ocean City’s lost hotel accommodations, supporting the town’s thriving tourism economy.
With approvals pending from the Downtown Merchants Association and City Council, the ICONA in Wonderland hotel could redefine luxury hospitality at the Jersey Shore.
