For years, one of Margate’s biggest pain points hasn’t been its beaches or its dining scene—it’s been parking. The city’s small-town charm has always been part of its appeal, but increased post-pandemic development has squeezed out available space. Now, one shop owner is bringing a fresh, creative fix.
Roz Feldman-Tyman, owner of the local boutique Jamaican Me Crazy, has launched “The Island Hopper”, a cashless trolley concept designed to shuttle residents and visitors between Margate’s most popular areas. The pilot debuted on July 19 and quickly gained praise from residents, businesses, and even local officials.
From Frustration to Forward Thinking
According to Feldman-Tyman, the parking challenge intensified as more people relocated from North Jersey and New York. Once-quiet streets are now lined with luxury homes, new developments, and denser housing—leaving visitors circling for open spots.
“This wasn’t the same island five years ago. It’s changed,” she noted.
Rather than wait for a city-led fix, Roz took action. Partnering with professionals from Atlantic City’s transportation sector, she brought the Island Hopper to life—with rave reviews and over 20,000 engagements on social media.
What the Trolley Means for Margate
The adorable trolleys will serve high-demand zones along Ventnor Avenue, the bayfront, and shopping districts. Riders can expect a cashless, app-based system, designed for efficiency. While pickups won’t be door-to-door, the route aims to connect people to where they actually want to be—whether it’s dining, shopping, or simply strolling the Shore.
Although not yet a city service, support from the mayors of Margate and Ventnor has fast-tracked the potential for official adoption.
“It’s not just about parking. It’s about saving summer businesses that only have 80 viable days a year,” Roz emphasized.
Why It Matters for Homeowners and Investors
When local infrastructure evolves to meet demand, property values rise. Amenities like the Island Hopper don’t just benefit business owners—they enhance the lifestyle of full-time residents, second-home owners, and vacation renters alike. In tight markets like Margate, location still reigns—but convenience is catching up fast.
